Biography
| Mary
Ann Nagel was born in Ohio on April 13, 1921. She graduated from Shelby
High School in 1939. Then married Jack W. Nagel in 1940 and later had
two sons, William Phillip and Tim Owen. |

Mary Ann studied and developed her unique style of artwork at the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, Ohio. Her instructors included John King, Robert Koepnick, and Margaret Myers. A fellow student was Comedian Jonathon Winters. During those years, Mary Ann studied Drawing, Sculpture, Oil Painting and Watercolor. She was a charter member of the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors. Mary Ann won numerous awards for her work in shows throughout the country. Prizes: First and Second in Oil, Dayton Society Painters and Sculptors; Best in Show and First place in Sculpture, Tri-County Art Fair. Exhibitions: Dayton Art Institute; Rochester Memorial Art Gallery; Cincinnati Art Museum; Norfolk Museum, VA; Columbus State Fair; High Street Gallery; University of Dayton Kennedy Gallery. |

Mary Ann was a woman with many talents including quilt making, rug making, crocheting, knitting, and macramé just to name a few. She was an avid collector of U.S. stamps, autographs, and antiques of many varieties. She loved cats and had several. Oil paint was by far her favorite medium. She completed close to 500 Paintings. Sadly, Mary Ann Nagel lost her fight with lung cancer on September 28, 2000. This site is in honor of an amazing artist, a loving wife, and a great lady. |
